Di Battista, Sharma Shine in Singles at Brown Classic

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Highlighted by perfect singles performances from junior Erica Di Battista and freshman Sydney Sharma, the Boston University women's tennis team competed over the weekend at the Brown Classic.
Overall, the Terriers posted a 12-6 combined singles mark against competitors from Yale, Brown and Rhode Island while earning a 4-4 doubles record.
A 2021 All-Patriot League honoree, Di Battista started off the event with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Yale's former five-star recruit, Vivian Cheng, and followed up with wins against Brown's Ryan Peus and URI's Nadia Rajan.
Sharma also collected an impressive singles win against a Yale five-star player, Nicole Gillinov, as she held off a late charge for the 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 victory. She then won all 16 combined games played against Brown's Selena Williams and URI's Paulina Loredo to end the weekend with a perfect record.
Graduate student Emily Kim and senior Shelly Yaloz were also both victorious against Brown and URI, while juniors Steph Nguyen and Sofia Nguyen and Sofia Kostirko collected wins over the Rams to add to the singles win total.
In doubles action, Yaloz led the charge, as she teamed with Kim for a 6-0 win over Brown and then with Sharma for a 6-4 victory over URI. Two more Terrier duos, Di Battista and sophomore Victoria Carlsten along with Nguyen and Kostirko, added a pair of victories against the Rams to wrap up the weekend.
BU will next conclude the fall slate at the Harvard Invitational on Nov. 5-7.
