BOSTON - Contending against a ranked opponent for the second straight weekend, the Boston University women's lacrosse team will welcome No. 22 UMass to Nickerson Field on Sunday for its home opener at 1 p.m.
BU fell in its opener at then-No. 6 Stony Brook on Sunday, 20-10, in its first matchup with the Seawolves since departing the America East following the 2013 season. Senior Emily Vervlied and Maddie MacMaster each registered two goals and one assist, while Lauren Kaye also found the back of the net twice. Jennifer Barry led the Terriers with a career-high six draw controls and fellow sophomore Arielle Hammer made her first career start in net. Makenzie Irvine leads the Terriers with a nine-game point streak, where she has compiled 18 goals and one assist during that stretch.
Due to current public health guidelines on gathering sizes and University restrictions regarding visitors on campus, fans are not allowed at Nickerson Field or surrounding areas. Please be advised that any visitors that gather in an attempt to watch the game will be asked to leave the area by game management personnel.

UMass is coming off a 4-1 campaign in 2020, a season in which it reached as high as No. 13 in the coaches poll. Caitlyn Petro is a retuning Inside Lacrosse Second Team All-American after leading the nation in 11.2 draw controls per game a season ago. Haley Connaughton is the team's leading returning scorer after notching 13 goals and a team-best 11 assists in 2020. The Minutewomen ranked seventh nationally with 17.20 points per game last year. Angela McMahon enters her 11th season as the helm of the program and is a six-time Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year.
