BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Two days after helping lead the Boston University softball team to a third consecutive NCAA appearance, junior Nicole Amodio, junior Emily Gant and sophomore Caitlin Coker were recognized for their achievements in the classroom with Academic All-Patriot League accolades, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Owner of GPAs above 3.78, the three Terriers earned All-Conference First Team recognition a week prior with Gant adding All-Tournament Team accolades over the weekend.
The announcement marks the second time in program history that three Terriers were honored by a conference since the academic award first became available in the America East in 2006. BU joined the Patriot League in the summer of 2013 and first had three members recognized in 2017 (Moriah Connolly, Gabi Martinez, Jilee Schanda).
Majoring in health sciences, Amodio owns a 3.90 GPA while batting .400 with a team-high 11 doubles, three homers and 33 RBIs. Twice named PL Player of the Week this season, the Phoenix, Arizona, native has increased her on-base percentage to .527 with 12 walks and 13 hit-by-pitches while adding 21 runs scored.
A fellow health sciences major in the Sargent College Honors Society alongside Amodio, Gant owns a 3.85 GPA while batting .391. The Grove City, Ohio, native has added 23 RBIs and 31 runs scored while also posting a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen bases. Adding to her athletic accomplishments, she's tallied a 5-2 record in the circle with a 1.18 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 47 innings of work.
A native of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Coker is the third Terrier to earn both Player of the Year and All-Academic honors in the Patriot League alongside Jilee Schanda ('18) and Alex Heinen ('19). She's second on the team at .410 and ranks 13th nationally at 1.3 runs per game for a total of 43 runs. She's also second with eight doubles while adding three triples and a homer as a biology major.
The Terrier trio and the rest of their teammates will open the program's 11th NCAA tournament as the No. 3 seed on Friday against Mississippi State with first-pitch slated for 4:30 p.m. in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
