HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just when it appeared that the teams would head into the break scoreless, the Terriers created a scoring chance in the final seconds of the opening half and went on to earn the game's first corner.
- On the ensuing corner, stick stop Casey Thompson slipped the ball over to Payton Anderson on the left side, where the freshman drilled a shot underneath the legs of UNH netminder Jemma Woods for a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
- BU doubled its lead with 3:13 remaining in the third quarter as junior Ellie McIntyre won a ball outside the circle and sent a bouncing pass to classmate Gianna Pantaleo, who had a perfect first touch in the middle of the circle to set up a shot that again went through Woods' legs.
- The Wildcats cut their deficit in half in the 47th minute off an impressive individual effort by Jaiden Wittle, who picked off a clearing attempt and created space at the top of the circle for a reverse-stick drive that found the left boards.
- BU quickly regained a two-goal lead, however, by scoring off a corner just three minutes after the UNH tally.
- After inserting the ball, senior Rebecca Janes was positioned at the left post, where she was the beneficiary of a double-redirect as Anderson's attempt was tipped by senior Miya Denison right to Janes.
- UNH had one more corner but junior Rachel Borzymowski came up with an impressive defensive save and the Terriers closed out the 3-1 win.
- The Terriers held a 7-5 advantage in shots and did not allow one until the 43rd minute.
- Anderson scored for the second time in as many games and currently leads the team in both points (5) and goals (2) this season.
- BU had five corners while allowing two.
- Junior Caroline Kelly earned the win in goal after keeping the Wildcats scoreless in the first half.
- Sophomore Kate Thomason was in the cage for the second half and made one save.
- Woods make one stop in goal for the Wildcats.
- BU has now won all six meetings versus UNH since joining the Patriot League in 2013.
- The Terriers will return to action on Sunday (Sept. 5) when they host No. 3 Iowa.
- The Hawkeyes, who reached the NCAA semifinals last season for the first time in 12 years, will be the highest-ranked opponent on New Balance Field since Duke came to town ranked second in 2017.
