Iowa opened the scoring late in the first half before adding another in the third quarter to take a 2-0 lead into the final quarter. The visitors added two more and finished off the shutout win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers looked to strike early and earned the game's first chance but graduate student Miya Denison's blast from the right side was stopped by Iowa netminder Grace McGuire in the opening minute.
- BU kept the Iowa offense at bay in the opening quarter, allowing just two shots on goal that were both saved by junior Caroline Kelly.
- The Hawkeyes, however, were able to take a lead into halftime as Lokke Stribos scored off a corner with 3:29 remaining in the second quarter.
- The visitors doubled their lead in the third quarter off another corner as a strike from the top of the circle by Anthe Nijziel was redirected to the top of the netting by Nikki Freeman at the 36:50 mark.
- The Terriers' best quarter was the third as they were able to penetrate the Iowa circle and create some looks.
- BU had a chance to cut the deficit in half on a corner in the 41st minute but freshman Payton Anderson's attempt hit squarely off the left post
- In the fourth, some nice passing in the circle led to two more goals for the Hawkeyes.
- Freeman found Leah Zellner at the right post for a tally at 49:12 before Ciara Smith capped the scoring on a shot from the middle of the circle following a no-look pass in transition from Esme Gibson with 6:26 left in the contest.
- Kelly made a season-high six saves in the opening half before sophomore Kate Thomason came on at the break and made three stops while allowing three goals.
- Junior Rachel Borzymowski made her second defensive save of the weekend on a brilliant stop off a rebound attempt during a third-quarter corner.
- Iowa earned eight corners while allowing just one.
- BU will close out a three-game homestand on Friday (Sept. 10) when it takes on UMass Lowell in the first meeting between the schools since 1988.
- Game time is set for 6 p.m.
