Women's Tennis Drops Dual Season Opener at Yale, 6-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Competing in its dual season opener, the Boston University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at Yale on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (1-0) won two of the three doubles matches for the first point and then captured five singles points, including three in straight sets, to defeat the Terriers (0-1).
Senior Shelly Yaloz won both of her matches to lead BU. The 2019 Patriot League Rookie of the Year first teamed with the 2021 award winner, Kaitlin Tan, for a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles against Rena Lin and Caroline Dunleavy. Yaloz then rallied from a set down to defeat the former blue-chip recruit Lin, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 5 slot.
Freshman Sydney Sharma also battled to a third set but ultimately came up just short, 3-6, 6-3, 10-2, at line 6. Sophomore Victoria Carlsten won the other set for the Terriers at line 3 in a 6-7(2), 6-1, 6-3 loss to the Bulldogs.
In a battle of two 2021 top-40 recruits, Yale's Mirabelle Brettkelly claimed just enough breaks to fend off freshman Michelle Kleynerman, 6-4, 6-4, at line 4.
The Terriers will next head up to Dartmouth for a weekend visit, as they will first face the Big Green on Saturday, Jan. 29, and then Brown on Sunday, Jan. 30
