Commesso Named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month
January 4, 2022 | Men's Ice Hockey
AMESBURY, Mass. - Sophomore Drew Commesso was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month, the league announced on Tuesday.
Commesso was terrific in his three December starts, posting a 2-0-1 record with a .944 save percentage and a 1.59 goals-against average. He began that impressive three-game stretch with a 29-save effort in a 4-1 triumph over New Hampshire on Dec. 3. The next night against the Wildcats, Commesso made 21 of his 28 saves in the third period in overtime to help BU earned a 2-1 triumph. He closed out the month with another 28-save performance in a 3-3 tie with Boston College. Eleven of Commesso's stops against the Eagles came in the final 25 minutes, including four sensational saves during 3-on-3 overtime.
A native of Norwell, Mass., Commesso was the starting goaltender for the United States' only preliminary-round game at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship, a 3-2 win over Slovakia, before the event was canceled. He was selected as his team's best player after his 23-save performance in the victory.
BU will return to action this weekend when the Terriers welcome Arizona State to Agganis Arena for a two-game series on Jan. 7 and 8.
