BU snapped Maine's 10-game win streak, which was the second-longest in the country this season, to improve to 8-7 on the year while Black Bears move to 11-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers came out strong out of the gate and quickly tested the Maine defense.
- BU had five shots in the opening quarter, with four of them on goal, and earned five corners but the teams headed into the second quarter scoreless.
- The Terriers found their groove on corners in the second, securing two of them and scoring on both to take a 2-0 lead.
- Anderson opened the scoring at the 17:55 mark when she found the boards from the top of the circle with assists going to graduate student Casey Thompson and Steenssens.
- BU drew a corner in the final minute of the opening half and used it to double its lead.
- Once again, the play was set up for Anderson and she came through with a perfectly placed shot to the left boards off assists by freshman Megan Wetzel and Steenssens.
- Csejka converted a pair of chances at the left post in the third quarter to give the Terriers their largest lead of the season.
- In the 38th minute, Steenssens executed a give-and-go with Thompson on the right side before sending a bouncing shot to the far post that Csejka batted in right after it was elevated off a Maine stick.
- Just over six minutes later, Csejka made it a 4-0 contest with help from senior Ellie McIntyre and sophomore Ella Rottinghaus.
- McIntyre sent in an entry ball from the right side that Rottinghaus directed towards the cage, then Csejka got a touch on it before Maine goalkeeper Mia Borley could push it away, allowing the junior striker to punch it in to complete the first two-goal game of her career.
- Maine found its game and went on a spurt, scoring late in third and early in the fourth off corners.
- Off a corner in the final minute of the third, Chloe Walton redirected a shot by Poppy Lambert to the back of the cage off a corner to make it 4-1.
- The Black Bears capitalized off another corner early in the fourth as Lambert scored off assists by Madisyn Hartley and Tereza Holubcova, cutting the BU lead to 4-2.
- Anderson capped her first career hat trick with 1:17 to play off a corner with helpers going to Thompson and Steenssens.
- Steenssens recorded four assists, one off the school record.
- Wetzel's assist was her first career point.
- BU held a 10-6 advantage in corners for the contest while the visitors had a 20-17 edge in shots.
- McIntyre and classmate Rachel Borzymowski recorded back-to-back defensive saves late in the third quarter.
- Borley made seven saves for the Black Bears.
- The Terriers return to action on Sunday (Oct. 23) when they visit No. 21 Boston College.
- Game time is set for 1p.m.
