
Women's Ice Hockey Hosts RPI, Union to Open 2022-23 Season

Coach Durocher Interview
The Boston University women's ice hockey team will officially kick off its 2022-23 season with a pair of home games as it takes on Rensselaer in the opener on Friday (Oct. 7) before hosting Union on Saturday (Oct. 8).
Friday's contest will start at 7 p.m. while Saturday's will be a 4 p.m. start. Both games will be on ESPN+ (broadcast guide).
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is entering its 18th season as a varsity program and this is the first time since the 2018 that the season opener is at home.
- The Terriers have welcomed seven newcomers (five freshmen, two transfers) to a roster that returns 11 of the top 15 point-scorers from the 2021-22 season.
- Senior Nadia Mattivi will serve as captain for the 2022-23 campaign while juniors Lacey Martin and Madison Cardaci are this year's assistant captains.
- The Terriers were selected fifth in the Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- Senior Julia Nearis is the team's leading returning point-scorer after posting 20 last year, including a team-best 16 assists.
- Callie Shanahan enters her sophomore season after an impressive first year in goal that led to her being named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team.
- Alex Allan and Jesse DeVito have returned for a fifth year to give the Terriers a larger veteran presence.
- BU is 10-4-3 all-time in season openers with wins in their past three.
SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
- The Engineers were picked sixth in the ECAC Preseason Coaches' Poll after a 2021-22 season in which they posted a record of 9-23-0.
- Rensselaer opened its season last weekend with a pair of road losses to St. Cloud State by scores of 5-0 and 3-2.
- Senior Maddie Peterson and junior Taylor Larsen provided the goals in the second game.
- Marah Wagner is back for her senior season after leading last year's squad in points (21), goals (11) and assists (10).
- Senior Amanda Rampano started all 30 games in goal last year as a junior and posted a 2.38 goals-against average and .930 save percentage.
BU-RPI SERIES HISTORY
- BU is 3-4-2 in eight all-time meetings with Rensselaer.
- The teams met for the first time in eight years last season with the Engineers earning a 4-2 home win on Oct. 22.
- The Terriers are a perfect 3-0-0 in the three meetings that have taken place at Walter Brown Arena.
SCOUTING THE DUTCHWOMEN
- Union has already played two weekend series with splits on the road against two Hockey East teams - New Hampshire and Holy Cross - and is coming off a 3-1 victory against the Crusaders.
- The Dutchwomen have eight road games to start the season as they will visit Clarkson and St. Lawrence next weekend to being ECAC play before their home opener against Harvard on Nov. 4.
- Senior Emily King currently leads the team in points with six on four goals and two assists.
- Freshman Riley Walsh also has four goals while fellow freshmen Amanda Quan (2g, 1a) and Stephanie Bourque (3a) have each contributed three points.
- Junior Celeste Beaudoin led last year's team in points (15) and assists (12).
BU-UNION SERIES HISTORY
- BU is a perfect 12-0-0 all-time against Union.
- The past three matchups have all taken place in Schenectady, including a 4-1 BU victory on Oct. 23 last season.
- There has been one shutout (6-0, 11/3/07) and one meeting went to overtime (3-2, 10/12/13).
- BU's first win in program history came against Union on Oct. 14, 2005.
UP NEXT
- The Terriers will kick off Hockey East play next Friday (Oct. 14) when it visits New Hampshire.
- That game, which will be televised on NESN, is set for 7 p.m.
