No. 19 Terriers to Host Maine Friday Night at Agganis

The Boston University men's ice hockey team will continue its 100th season on Friday night when they welcome Maine to Agganis Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
An updated fan/visitor policy will be in effect for Friday's contest. All guests five years and older will be required to provide digital or printed proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 (two weeks after final dose) to gain access to Agganis Arena and the Case Center for ice hockey and basketball games. In addition, all guests 16 years and older who are eligible (six months past completing their initial Moderna or Pfizer vaccination; two months past the Johnson & Johnson vaccination) will be required to show digital or printed proof of booster vaccination AND original full vaccination to gain access to the facility.

TERRIER TIDBITS- BU improved to 9-1-1 in its last 11 games with a 5-2 victory over No. 17 Providence on Sunday at Agganis.
- That victory was a second consecutive win over a ranked foe, as the Terriers topped then-No. 9/8 UMass, 6-4, on Jan. 25.
- BU returned to the USCHO.com poll this week, coming in at No. 19.
- Junior Wilmer Skoog scored two goals in the win over the Friars while reigning Hockey East Defender of the Week Domenick Fensore also lit the lamp.
- Skoog (8g, 11a) and Fensore (4g, 15a) are tied for the team lead in points with 19.
- Junior Matt Brown enters Friday on a six-game point streak, having tallied four goals and four assists for eight points during that stretch.
- Brown has notched a point in eight of his last nine games.
- Junior Robert Mastrosimone leads BU with nine goals and is second on the squad with 18 points.
- He has lit the lamp in three of the last four contests and has secured a point in six of his last eight appearances.
- Sophomore goaltender Drew Commesso was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for the second straight month.
- He is now with the U.S. Olympic Team in Beijing, which means either junior Ashton Abel or sophomore Vinny Duplessis will get the start between the pipes for BU.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Terriers and Black Bears have played 137 times since first meeting in the 1923-24 season, and BU holds a 68-55-14 edge (.547), including a 28-13-6 advantage since the beginning of the 2005-06 season.
- BU swept the Black Bears in last season's series at Walter Brown Arena thanks to a 3-2 overtime win (Jan. 22) and a 5-1 victory (Jan. 23)
- Maine was undefeated in the past four meetings (3-0-1), its longest such streak against BU since it went 4-0-1 in the 2002 calendar year, before last year.
- Twenty-seven meetings have gone into overtime and BU holds a 10-2-15 advantage in those.
- The Terriers' longest winning streak in the series was 13 games (Jan. 16, 1982 - Feb. 15, 1986). The Black Bears' longest streak was 11 games (Oct. 31, 1986 - Nov. 10, 1989) and came just after the BU win streak.
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
- Maine went 2-3-0 in January, closing out the month with a 4-1 win over Boston College on Jan. 28.
- Jakub Sirota, Adam Dawe, and Grant Hebert (2g) all scored in the win over BC while Victor Ostman posted 32 saves in his third win of the 2021-22 season.
- Lynden Breen leads Maine with 13 points thanks to four goals and a team-best nine assists.
- David Breazeale also has nine assists and is tied for third on the squad in points (11) with leading goal scorer Donavan Villeneuve-Houle (8g, 3a).
- Sirota is second on the squad with 12 points thanks to four goals and eight assists.
- In 13 appearances this season, Ostman is 3-8-1 with a .902 save percentage and a 2.94 goals-against average.
- Ostman started both games against BU last season.
- Matthew Thiessen has played in nine contests, going 0-6-3 with a 3.17 goals-against average and an .882 save percentage.
- Thiessen relieved Ostman in the second game of last year's series at BU.
- The Terriers will head to TD Garden to face Harvard in the opening game of the 69th Men's Beanpot on Monday night.
- Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m., with the game to be televised live on NESN.
