BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Adding to the Boston University softball team's major awards haul, senior Nicole Amodio was named the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced Thursday morning just two hours before the start of the conference tournament. She was joined by both senior Emily Gant and junior Caitlin Coker on the Academic All-PL squad for the second consecutive season.
All three Terriers were recognized as All-PL First Team honorees this past Tuesday after they helped BU claim its fourth straight conference regular season title with the help of a 27-game win streak. Boasting a 3.93 GPA along with a team-high eight home runs and 45 RBIs, Amodio collected the program's first PL Scholar-Athlete of the Year award since BU joined the conference in the summer of 2013. Emily Roesch ('13) was the last Terrier honored by a conference as the top scholar in 2012 when the team was in the America East.
A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Amodio was the recipient of the Gretchen Schuyler Award as BU's top female scholar-athlete late in April. Previously tabbed to the Senior CLASS Top-30 list, the two-time team captain finished the regular season with a .302 batting average and 22 runs scored. In-season highlights include a three-run homer in a 6-1 win at then-No. 13 Georgia and a two-run blast in 8-4 victory over 2022 CAA regular season champion Delaware. Majoring in health science, she's a three-time PL Academic Honor Roll member and currently ranks ninth all-time at BU with 17 career homers and 113 career RBIs.
Gant (Grove City, Ohio) is also entering the PL tournament with 45 RBIs while majoring in health science with a 3.88 GPA and batting .400. A two-time All-Region and two-time All-Tournament Team honoree, Gant received 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition along with her second NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete award. She increased her batting average to .420 during conference play and went yard four times while adding three doubles.
The 2021 PL Player of the Year Coker (Downingtown, Pa.) joined Gant in earning CoSiDA Academic All-District honors last spring. This regular season, she batted .330 with 15 doubles, tied-for-third most in program history, while adding four triples and six homers alongside 44 runs. She was impressive as well at third base, posting a perfect fielding percentage while majoring in biology with a 3.83 GPA.
Amodio, Coker and Gant will next take to the field at 12 p.m. against Colgate in the PL tournament opener on ESPN+.
