Gant Named CoSIDA Academic All-American

June 7, 2022

AUSTIN, Texas – After helping lead the Boston University softball team to a fourth straight Patriot League regular season title and graduating magna cum laude, senior Emily Gant has received Academic All-America honors, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A native of Grove City, Ohio, Gant is just the fourth Terrier in program history to receive the prestigious honor, joining Beth Iwamoto ('97), Amy Parker ('00) and Jayme Mask ('14). Named to the third team, she's also the 17th in Patriot League history to be recognized with Mask the last one to accomplish the feat. Gant batted .387 this past spring and delivered the fourth-most RBIs (46) in a season at BU to claim her third NFCA All-Region award along with her third All-PL First Team accolade.

In the classroom, Gant owned a 3.88 GPA and graduated with a bachelor's degree in health science from Sargent College. She earlier earned in May both her second CoSIDA All-District and Academic All-PL awards for her athletic and scholarly accomplishments. The outfielder was just one of three players from the Northeast and the lone New England representative to claim CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades.

Highlights on the season include an incredible seven RBI performance against Colgate in which she went 3-for-4 with a grand slam homer. She collected multiple hits in notable wins over Big West regular season champion Cal State Fullerton, Big Ten member Purdue and Ivy League rival Harvard (2x). She also delivered a pair of RBIs at Mountain West regular season champion San Diego State for another key non-conference victory and launched a three-run homer to center for the 5-2 win at Big East regular season champion UConn.

Gant finished a historic season in which BU (40-17) went on a 27-game win streak with 40 runs scored, six homers, six doubles, four triples and four stolen bases while boasting a team-leading .613 slugging percentage alongside a .429 on-base percentage.
