Matulis Strike Helps Terriers Earn 1-1 Season-Opening Draw at Albany
August 25, 2022 | Men's Soccer
ALBANY, N.Y. – Opening its 74th season, the Boston University men's soccer team used a 60th minute strike from senior Quinn Matulis to rally for a 1-1 draw at Albany on Thursday night.
After the NCAA removed overtime for regular season games earlier this year, the Terriers began a season with a tie for the first time since 2010. Junior Andrew Rent earned the assist as part of a successful give-and-go, and senior Francesco Montali recorded a pair of saves to help BU overcome the Great Danes' successful penalty kick conversion in the 23rd minute.
"Tonight is a good start to the year on the road against a good side in Albany," said head coach Kevin Nylen. "After conceding the PK, our group had a great response and were able to push for the remainder of the half and into the second half. We found a good goal and then had to deal with the end of the game and their pressure. Great start tonight for us."

- Montali earned his second save at 66:49 and helped BU clear a pair of long service passes toward the box in the final minute to secure the draw.
