October 2, 2023 | Field Hockey
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After helping the Boston University field hockey team claim a pair of double-overtime home wins, senior Thalia Steenssens and junior Payton Anderson have been named the Patriot League Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Steenssens had a hand in all five BU goals over the weekend, tallying three goals and two assists for eight points. The senior midfielder scored her first goal of the season on Saturday against Bucknell before assisting on sophomore Megan Wetzel's 78th-minute winner in a 2-1 triumph. On Sunday, Steenssens scored two goals, including the double-overtime winner, and added an assist to push the Terriers past Northeastern, 3-2.
Anderson anchored a defense that kept the Bison and the Huskies scoreless for the final 46 and 36 minutes of play, respectively, to allow for the overtime heroics. The junior back assisted on BU's first goal against the Huskies, ripping a corner shot to the left post, where Steenssens tipped it up and in.
The Terriers will return to action on Friday (Oct. 6) when they host New Hampshire. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
