Field Hockey Opens Patriot League Play on Saturday at Bucknell

The Boston University field hockey team (3-5) will kick off its Patriot League schedule on Saturday (Sept. 26) when it visits Bucknell (4-3, 0-1 PL). Game time in Lewisburg is set for 11 a.m.

- The Terriers are coming off a 5-1 win at New Hampshire on Sunday, ending a three-game losing skid.
- Sophomore Lucy Johnson has scored in five of the team's eight games this season and leads all Patriot League players in goals with seven.
- Graduate student Caroline O'Brien, last season's top point producer in the PL, has added four goals and three assists.Â
- Maddie Hudson, who has missed three full seasons due to injury, has added 10 points on four goals and two assists while senior Alex Purcell has 10 points on three goals and a team-best four assists.
- O'Brien and senior Nicole Lauro were named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team and joined senior Olivia Hammer, senior Maggie Driscoll and sophomore Molly Driscoll on the 2026 NFHCA Collegiate Watchlist.
- Senior Sophie Ortyl now has 25 career starts in goal and has a .634 save percentage this season while sophomore Anna Wilson recently made her first two career starts and sports a .680 save percentage.
- BU was selected to finish third in the Patriot League preseason poll behind American and Lafayette.
- Hudson and Maggie Driscoll are serving as co-captains for the 2026 season.
- Saturday starts a stretch of three straight Patriot League games for the Terriers.Â
SCOUTING BUCKNELL
- The Bison have dropped their past three games including a 1-0 home loss to American in their Patriot League opener last Friday.
- Bucknell opened the season with four straight wins against Ball State, Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac and Cornell.Â
- Junior Bella Notaro leads the team in six points with two goals and two assists.
- Senior Julia Corropolese has two goals and two defensive saves.
- Senior goalkeeper Sarah Althouse, classmate Ryane Fisahn and junior Sally Hunter were all named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team.
- Althouse has started all seven games this season and currently has a .719 save percentage and a 2.35Â goals-against average.
- The Bison were picked fourth in the Patriot League preseason poll.
SERIES HISTORY
- Friday will mark the 16th meeting all-time between the two sides.
- BU is 9-6Â all-time against the Bison.
- Last year in Boston, Bucknell earned a 4-0 win, ending a stretch of 13 straigth meetings that were decided by one goal.
