BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Adding to the Boston University softball team's major awards haul, senior Caitlin Coker was named the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
The honor marks the third overall year-end recognition for Coker after she claimed 2023 PL Defensive Player and 2021 Player of the Year recognition. Besides becoming the first-ever Patriot League member to claim all three awards, she helped BU claim a program-record four Academic All-Conference honors alongside graduate student Nicole Amodio, graduate student Emily Gant and junior Kayla Roncin.
A native of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Coker finished the regular season leading the NCAA at 10 triples while batting .366 with 49 runs scored and 45 RBIs. She's committed just one error at third base over the last two seasons and is now both a three-time All-PL First Team and Academic All-PL Team honoree. Off the field, she owns a 3.87 GPA majoring in biology and is a recipient of BU's Scarlet Key, which is one of the school's highest academic honors that acknowledges the curricular and extracurricular achievements of students who are evaluated on leadership, commitment, representation, tradition and academics.
Named the 2022 PL Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, Amodio owns a 4.00 GPA pursuing a master's in public health after graduating with a bachelor's in health science (3.94 GPA). A native of Phoenix, Arizona, she batted .278 during conference play and posted an overall on-base percentage of .435 with 22 runs and 21 RBIs entering the PL tournament. She's a four-time All-PL First Team honoree and three-time Academic All-PL Team member.
Gant graduated last year with a bachelor's in health science (3.90 GPA) and is currently pursuing a master's in environmental health (4.00 GPA). She ended the regular season batting .340 with a .407 on-base percentage, 36 RBIs and 37 runs scored. The Grove City, Ohio, native was named a College Sports Communicators' Academic All-American last season and is now a three-time PL All-Academic Team honoree alongside a four-time All-PL First Team member.
Twice placed on the PL Academic Honor Roll, the two-time PL Player of the Year Roncin earned her first Academic All-PL nod. A native of Toms River, New Jersey, she's currently tied with the all-time PL record at 85 hits and is the winner of the conference's regular season triple crown, boasting 51 RBIs and nine homers with a grand slam at Boston College. She's majoring in health science with a 3.51 cumulative GPA.
