Waters Signs Multi-Year Extension
August 17, 2023 | Softball
BOSTON – Leader of the two-time reigning NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year, Boston University softball head coach Ashley Waters has agreed to a multi-year contract extension, director of athletics Drew Marrochello announced on Thursday.
Entering her ninth year at the helm, Waters most recently led the Terriers to their fifth straight conference regular season title and an overall record of 52-10 for the most wins by a Northeast school in 21 years. BU swept the major Patriot League awards en route to its fifth NCAA regional appearance under her watchful eye and finished the season in the top 15 in nine separate national statistical categories.
"Ashley and her staff have done an exemplary job of finding talented student-athletes from across the country who are a great fit for BU, which has led to an impressive and consistent run," said Marrochello. "She is an outstanding leader and we are proud to have her at the helm of our softball program."
Overall, Waters has helped the Terriers combine for 56 All-PL, 29 NFCA All-Region and 24 major PL year-end honors. Owner of a program-best .676 winning percentage, she's also set the school coaching record for both NCAA appearances (5) and conference regular-season titles (5).
"I am proud and honored to call Boston University home," said Waters. "The beautiful city, the incredible student-athletes and the remarkable academics have made BU a phenomenal place to work. I am grateful for Drew Marrochello's continuous support and dedication to our program and this athletic department. This program has a storied history of greatness, and I am eager for the opportunity to strive for new heights. The best is yet to come."
With Waters' help, BU finished atop the program record book in 2023 for batting average (.327), fielding percentage (.980), runs scored (341), hits (522), RBIs (304), strikeouts (404) and triples (35) to help earn its first NFCA top 25 national ranking since 1996. The Terriers also set a team and Patriot League record with a 28-game win streak.
