Terriers Edged at Lehigh, 1-0

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh scored the lone goal of the game in the 18th minute as the Boston University field hockey team suffered its first road loss of the season on Friday evening at Ulrich Field.
Each team had seven corners in the contest and senior Kate Thomason turned in an eight-save performance in goal for the Terriers.
Lehigh's Ella Stevenson broke a scoreless deadlock on a shot from the top of the circle early in the second quarter.
BU moves to 3-4 on the season and 1-1 in Patriot League play while the Mountain Hawks improve to 6-2 with a 1-0 conference mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU recorded the only two shots of the opening quarter but neither was on goal.
- Lehigh came out strong in the second quarter and tested Thomason with a shot in the 17th minute that was saved.
- Moments later, Stevenson found the boards at the 17:12 mark.
- The Terriers had the only three corners of the opening half but their shots each time were either blocked or wide of the cage.
- Lehigh controlled possession for the vast majority of the third quarter but the Terrier defense kept it a one-goal game.
- Sophomore Caroline O'Brien gave BU its best chance at an equalizer when she stole a pass deep in the Lehigh zone and charged in before having her shot saved at the near post.
- The Terriers earned their final corner with just over a minute to play but were unable to generate a shot.
- Thomason made six of her eight saves in the second half.
- Lehigh held a slim 11-9 advantage in shots.
- Jenny Canoni earned the shutout in goal for Lehigh, stopping all four shots she faced.
- O'Brien and junior Payton Anderson each recorded four shots for the Terriers.
- The Terriers will stay on the road and head to New Jersey to take on Monmouth on Sunday (Sept. 24)
- Game time is set for noon.
