No. 15 Women’s Ice Hockey Welcomes Maine for Weekend Series

BOSTON – No. 15 Boston University women's ice hockey (2-3-0, 1-1-0 HE) hosts Maine (1-3-0, 1-1-0 HE) for a pair of games at Agganis Arena this weekend. Puck drop against the Black Bears on both Friday and Saturday is set for 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.
 
Friday's game will be BU's Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer game in support of the Ellie Fund. Both games will also be a part of a doubleheader with men's ice hockey which plays at 7 p.m.
 
TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU entered the USA Hockey rankings on Tuesday at No. 15, marking the first time since Dec. 2020 (No. 10) that the Terriers have been ranked.
  • The Terriers most recently split the weekend series with No. 12/13 Northeastern, dropping the first game 4-0 and winning the second 4-0.
  • BU's win over Northeastern was its first since 2021 and was the first shutout against the Huskies since 2010. The Terriers went 12-for-12 on the penalty kill in the series.
  • Freshman Lola Reid, juniors Riley Walsh, Sydney Healey and Clara Yuhn all scored in the win.
  • Healey led BU with two points thanks to picking up an assist on Walsh's goal.
  • Juniors Maeve Carey, Maeve Kelly, senior Maggie Hanzel and graduate student Tamara Giaquinto also recorded assists in the win.
  • Nine Terriers have scored, and eleven Terriers have recorded an assist this season.
  • The Terriers lead Hockey East in shooting percentage (.116) and is 11th in the NCAA in penalty killing percentage (.895)
  • Senior Callie Shanahan was named the Hockey East Goaltender of the Week (10.14) after recording her first shutout of the season in the 4-0 win over Northeastern.
  • Shanahan is seventh in the NCAA and leads Hockey East in save percentage (0.952).
  • Freshman Lola Reid is currently second in the NCAA and first in Hockey East for game winning goals with two.
  • Junior Lilli Welcke is ranked 41st in the NCAA in faceoff wins with 43.
  • Graduate student Tamara Giaquinto continues to lead BU in blocks with 11. She is also third in the NCAA and first in the league in power play goals with two.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • The Terriers are 34-22-4 overall against Maine with an 17-12-2 record at home, including a 1-0-1 record at Agganis Arena.
  • In the last meeting, Maine claimed the 3-1 win at Walter Brown Arena on Feb. 9, 2024.
  • BU went 2-1 in the 2023-24 season against the Black Bears, winning both games on the road in a 4-3 outcome (Oct. 28, 2023; Jan. 8, 2024).
  • The Terriers and the Black Bears last went to a shootout on Jan. 20, 2023, when BU earned the shootout win in the 3-3 tie at Alfond Arena.
  • The last time BU and Maine met at Agganis was on Jan. 26, 2008, when the foes tied 1-1 in overtime.
 
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
  • Maine is 1-3-0 on the season and 1-1-0 in Hockey East play.
  • Its lone win of the season came over Providence, 3-2, at home.
  • The Black Bears opened the season with a series against No. 10 Quinnipiac, dropping the contests 7-0 and 4-0.
  • Senior forward Alyssa Wruble is Maine's leading goal scorer with two goals, one from each game against Providence.
  • Sophomore netminder Julia Bachetti has started all four games for the Black Bears and has logged 30+ saves in three games.
