Field Hockey Edged by No. 9 Harvard, 2-1

ALLSTON, Mass. - The Boston University field hockey team put up a strong effort against ninth-ranked Harvard on Sunday, falling by a score of 2-1 at Berylson Field.
The game was scoreless for 42 minutes before the Crimson struck twice in span of 62 seconds to take a 2-0 lead. Junior Natalie Epperson scored her third goal of the weekend with 7:42 to play but the Terriers were unable to find a late equalizer.
BU moves to 5-5 on the year while Harvard improves to 9-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terrier defense was able to limit the Crimson's chances throughout the game, especially in the opening half.
- Graduate student Kate Thomason recorded two saves in each of the first two quarters to keep the game scoreless heading into the break.
- Emily Guckian opened the scoring for the home team late in the third quarter when her shot from the top of the circle got through traffic at the 42:07 mark.
- Moments later, Emily Bronckers took a pass from Maddie Mullaney on the right side and elevated a shot to the netting to push the score to 2-0.
- Both teams had five shots in the final quarter and the Terriers used a flurry in the 53rd minute to get on the board.
- After shots by junior Caroline O'Brien and sophomore Bella Cloutier were stopped, Epperson punched in the ball near the goal line before the Crimson defense could clear it away.
- Thomason turned in a nine-save performance for the Terriers to improve her season save percentage to .736.
- Tessa Shahbo had four saves in goal for the Crimson.
- Harvard held a 14-6 shot advantage and earned seven corners.
- Epperson, who had two goals in Friday's win over Holy Cross, entered that game with one career goal.
- BU will return to action on Friday (Oct. 11) when it visits American.
- Game time in the nation's capital is set for 2 p.m.
