BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior Victoria Carlsten and freshman Uma Bakaityte of the Boston University women's tennis team were selected as the Patriot League Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, respectively, the league announced Tuesday. In addition to Carlsten and Bakaityte's First Team All-Patriot League placements, senior Kaitlin Tan was named to the Second Team All-Patriot League.
Carlsten led BU at the top of the singles lineup through most of the season. The senior won 21 singles matches in 2023-24 and went undefeated in league play. In the postseason, she went 2-0 at the No. 1 singles spot and put BU up 3-2 in the championship match. In doubles, she went 5-0 in league play and notably won her match alongside Nina Gulbransen in BU's upset over then-No. 55 FAU. This is the second time Carlsten was chosen as the Player of the Year after earning the honor in 2022 and marks her third selection to the First Team All-Patriot League.
Bakaityte also won 21 singles matches in the 2023-24 season which included a 13-6 dual match record and a 5-0 league record. She was 6-0 from the No. 2 spot which notably featured wins at then-No. 38 Yale and against Navy in the Patriot League championship match. The Kaunas, Lithuania, native is the second consecutive Terrier to receive the Rookie of the Year accolade after Emily Zhao received the award in 2023.
Tan mostly played at line three in singles going 10-4 at the No. 3 spot. In conference play, the senior went 4-0. In doubles, she went 10-7 in dual match play and 3-1 in conference play. This marks her second appearance on the Second Team All-Patriot League after being selected to it in 2023. She has been a member of an All-Patriot League Team in each of her four years as a Terrier.
