Women’s Soccer Opens 30th Varsity Season Against Northwestern on Thursday

BOSTON – The Boston University women's soccer program ignites its 2024 season on Thursday (Aug. 15) when it hosts Big Ten foe Northwestern at Nickerson Field. Opening kick is set for 6 p.m.
Admission is free for fans, and 2024 team schedule posters are available at the marketing table on the Nickerson Field concourse, while supplies last.
Thursday's match airs on ESPN+, with David Korzeniowski and Jess Todd on the call. An international broadcast for fans outside of the United States is available through the Patriot League using the links above. Live statistics are available through GoTerriers.com.

- Returning 22 letterwinners from the 2023 campaign, BU was projected to finish third in the 2024 Patriot League preseason poll, released last Thursday (Aug. 8).
- Senior Eileen Solomon as well as juniors Giulianna Gianino and Natalie Godoy were named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team.
- The Terriers retain five All-Patriot League selections from last year, including Gianino (First Team), Godoy (Second Team), and Third Team honorees Celia Braun, Morgan Fagan, and Mackenzie Stickelman.
- Ten newcomers arrive in 2024. Juniors Gianna Savella and Helene Tyburczy transfer from Syracuse and Auburn, respectively, to join the eight-member freshmen class.
- Graduate student Lily Matthews is back for her fifth season as a Terrier, and joins Solomon and Braun as a captain for the year.
- Back in April, the program also announced the signings of Brigid and Rori Barden as part of its partnership with Team IMPACT.
- The three captains as well as Fagan, Gianino, senior Allison Hanlon, and junior Margy Porta comprise the team's leadership group.
- Last season, BU registered 29 assists and 31 goals, the most since 2011 and 2015, respectively. Returning Terriers accounted for 26 goals (83.8 percent) and 25 assists (86.2 percent).
- Braun played all 1,820 minutes in goal last season, compiling a .727 save percentage and 1.48 goals-against average. She enters 2024 ranked third in program history with 151 career saves.
- BU's 2024 season features nine home contests, nine non-conference tilts, and nine Patriot League matchups.
- The Terriers open the year with five home games in six matches. Last season, BU went 6-3-3 at Nickerson Field.
- The Wildcats open their campaign with two road contests, traveling to #RV Virginia following Thursday's tilt.
- Northwestern was ranked 12th in the newly-revamped Big Ten preseason poll following the conference's re-alignment before the 2024-25 academic year.
- Graduate student Josie Aulicino, senior Emma Phillips, and junior Caterina Regazzoni were all named to the Big Ten Players to Watch List.
- Aulicino and Phillips are the Wildcats' leading returning scorers from 2023, having tallied a respective 19 and 14 points.
- Goalkeeper Reiley Fitzpatrick started all 18 games for Northwestern a year ago, sporting a 1.13 goals-against average and a .706 save percentage.
- In 2023, Northwestern went 9-5-4 on the year and 3-5-2 in Big Ten play. The Wildcats were ranked as high as 18th in the United Soccer Coaches poll that season.
- Thursday marks the fifth all-time meeting between BU and Northwestern in a series that began in 1999.
- Both sides have two wins apiece in the rivalry. The Terriers won the first two, while the Wildcats have triumphed in the last two matches.
- Last year, Northwestern was victorious, 3-0, in Evanston, Ill. on Aug. 31.
- BU's lone home win against the Wildcats occurred on Sept. 1, 2013. Goals from Madison Clemens and Ana Cuffia powered a 2-0 win. Alyssa Parisi recorded a three-save shutout.
- All-time, the Terriers are 3-13-1 against Big Ten foes.
- BU continues its homestand with a matchup against local rival Northeastern on Sunday (Aug. 18). Opening kick is slated for 6 p.m.
