Terriers Blanked at No. 17 Boston College

NEWTON, Mass. - The Boston University field hockey team fell at No. 17 Boston College by a score of 6-0 on Sunday afternoon at Newton Campus Field.
The Eagles scored in the third minute of play and built up a 5-0 lead by halftime.
Sophomore Sophie Ortyl (4) and graduate student Kate Thomason (6) combined for 10 saves in goal and freshman Caitlin Wong added a pair of defensive saves.
BU moves to 1-1 on the season while the Eagles improve to 2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BC got on the board with the first shot of the game as Mia Garber came in from the left side and scored at the goalmouth at the 2:14 mark.
- The Terriers quickly earned the first corner of the game but the play resulted in a blocked shot by the Eagles.
- The Eagles pushed their lead to 2-0 on their first corner of the afternoon with Peyton Hale tallying her first of two goals in the contest at 4:58.
- BC put together a three-goal second quarter with goals by Martina Giacchino (20'), Pia Serowik (26') and Madelief Grandjean (27') to establish a 5-0 cushion at the break.
- The Eagles continued to put pressure on in the latter half with 18 shot attempts after halftime.
- BU limited the home team to just one goal in the second half as Hale scored off a corner in the 39th minute.
- Ortyl made four saves in the first half before Thomason took over in the second half and recorded six saves.
- BC earned 18 corners in the game while the Terriers had four.
- Charlotte Kramer and Hayley Hayden each had a save in a combined shutout effort for the Eagles.
- The Terriers will return to action on Friday (Sept. 6) for their home opener against No. 12 Michigan.
- Game time at New Balance Field is set for 6 p.m.
