Terriers Handle Business Against Iona, Roll 14-5

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — The Boston University women's lacrosse team rode a four-goal game from sophomore Tessa Geddes and a strong defensive effort to a 14-5 win over Iona Saturday afternoon at Mazzella Field.
The Terriers (3-2, 0-0 PL) outshot Iona 22-15 and drew 17 draws to the Gaels' six on Saturday afternoon, controlling the game. BU opened up the contest with a 6-1 lead after the first and never looked back.

- Jayne Feeney notched the first goal of the contest with her fifth of the season just 1:06 into the first period.
- The Gaels tied it with 11:07 left in the quarter while up a player.
- From there, BU scored five straight to end the quarter, starting with Hannah Tillier potting one with 9:01 left to play in the first.
- Alex Cutone found the back of the net next, scoring just 1:31 later off an assist from Kendall Sims.
- Izabella Amonte got her ninth of the year with 2:02 to play in the period before Geddes scored her first of the game with 1:39 remaining in the quarter.
- With just nine seconds to play in the first, graduate student Kendall Sims put another one away to make it 6-1.
- Iona got the first goal of the second before Feeney and Geddes each hit twine again, extending the Terriers' lead to 8-2.
- The Gaels scored once more before the half and BU took a commanding 8-3 lead into the break.
- Geddes opened the third by securing her hat trick with 11:09 to play in the quarter, also starting a string of six straight goals for the Terriers.
- Amonte got the next one at 6:39 in the third and junior Elle Stevenson put her sixth of the year in with 5:13 to play to make it 11-3.
- Cutone scored her second of the game with 14:10 to play in the fourth and then senior Avery Jones made the BU advantage 10 with a goal at 13:02.
- Geddes capped off her afternoon with one more tally, scoring with 10:36 left in the game before Iona added two more in the fourth.
- BU went 20-of-22 on cleares and held the Gaels to just 19-of-25 on clears.
- Freshman Kaitlyn Barton had a career-high 10 draw controls — the fifth-most of any PL player in a game this season.
- Sophomore Natalie Aiosa made 10 saves, notching her third straight contest where she's made 10-plus saves. She has accomplished that feat in four of five games this season and leads the NCAA in saves.
- The Terriers are now 2-1 against opponents from the MAAC this season and have held three MAAC opponents to just 21 combined goals.
- Amonte is the first Terrier to reach 10 goals this season. She also leads the team in points with 13.Â
- Jones caused a turnover and picked up four ground balls in the win, and she now has caused at least one turnover in each of the five games BU has played this year.
