Terriers Garner Two Major Year-End Awards, Five All-Patriot League Honors
May 6, 2025 | Softball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After helping the Boston University softball team earn 36+ wins for the seventh straight season, junior pitcher Kasey Ricard and junior infielder Brooke Deppiesse garnered major year-end awards from the Patriot League, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. The duo also collected All-PL First Team recognition alongside junior infielder Megan Coyle, sophomore outfielder Kylie Doherty and sophomore infielder Libby Walsh.
Ricard repeated as the PL Pitcher of the Year after being named Rookie of the Year in 2023, and Deppiesse earned her first career major award. They both received their third All-PL accolade, as the Terriers led the conference with five All-Conference First Team members. Doherty moved up from the second team, while Coyle and Walsh were both recognized for the first time.
A native of Littleton, Mass., Ricard took on more of the pitching load this season following the graduation last summer of former All-PL First Team honorees, Allison Boaz ('24) and Lizzy Avery ('24). Owner of a conference-best 2.03 ERA, she will enter the PL tournament No. 1 nationally in innings pitched (224.2), third in wins (24-10) and 13th in strikeouts (212). The 2024 PL Tournament MVP and now three-time All-PL First Team honoree is currently holding opponents to a .223 batting average.
Earning her second first team recognition after receiving second team honors as a freshman, Deppiesse posted a .975 fielding percentage playing mostly second base and then late in the season shortstop, as BU claimed its fifth overall PL Defensive Player of the Year award. The Redwood City, California, native helped the Terriers end the regular season 10th nationally at 14 shutouts and 22nd in ERA (2.62). At the plate, she currently ranks 15th nationally in triples (6) and 39th in runs scored (54) with a .416 batting average.
Playing first base in her first season with the Terriers after transferring from Lafayette, Coyle collected four homers, 11 doubles, 22 runs scored and 51 RBIs, four away from tying the BU record and five away from the current PL record. In a highlight performance, the Herndon, Virgina, native posted a program-tying seven RBIs in a run-rule victory at Holy Cross with the help of a grand slam.
Improving on her rookie-season .235 batting average by 130 points to .365, Doherty has nearly doubled her extra-base hit collected from 15 to 24 this season. The Bolton, Massachusetts, native currently owns 13 homers, one shy of tying the program record and three away from the current PL record. Owner of 45 RBIs and 54 runs scored, she's added 22 walks for a .435 on-base percentage.
A 2024 All-Pac 12 Freshman Team honoree, Walsh ended the regular season third on the team batting .348 with three triples, three homers, six doubles, 24 RBIs and 35 runs scored. The Plainville, Massachusetts, native also owned a .960 fielding percentage at short before moving to second a couple of weeks ago due to an injured hand. She also earned 20 walks for a .442 on-base percentage.
Seeking their third straight automatic NCAA berth, the Terriers will next head to Army West Point for the PL Tournament on May 8-10 as the No. 2 seed.
