BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Excelling on the field and in the classroom, three Boston University softball juniors earned Academic All-Patriot League honors with Kasey Ricard leading the way as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
Ricard joined elite company in becoming just the third Patriot League Pitcher of the Year in conference history to add Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolades in the same season. Both she and Megan Coyle received their second consecutive Academic All-PL award, while reigning PL Defensive Player of the Year Brooke Deppiesse claimed her first, a day after all three garnered All-PL First Team recognition.
A native of Littleton, Massachusetts, Ricard ended the regular season ranked first nationally in innings pitched (224.2), third in wins (24), 13th in strikeouts (212), 26th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.33) and 40th in shutouts (4) to repeat as the PL Pitcher of the Year. On the academic front, the two-time PL Academic Honor Roll member is majoring in health science with a 3.91 GPA and is the third Terrier in four years to claim Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors after two-time PL Defensive Player of the Year Caitlin Coker ('24) and Nicole Amodio ('23) previously accomplished the feat.
Coyle enters the PL tournament fourth on the team batting .323 with a triple, four homers, 11 doubles, 22 runs scored and 51 RBIs, five shy of tying the conference record. The Herndon, Virginia, native has also earned 21 walks for a .400 on-base percentage. In the classroom, she owns a 4.00 GPA majoring in political science.
A three-time All-PL honoree, Deppiesse ranks 15th nationally in triples (6), 45th in doubles (15) and 68th in batting average (.416). The Redwood City, California, native also ranks 98th in on-base percentage (.495) thanks to 22 walks and six hit-by-pitches. She is majoring in business administration & management with a 3.370 GPA.
