Field Hockey Set to Host Maine on Sunday

BOSTON - The Boston University field hockey team (2-3) will return home on Sunday (Sept. 13) to face Maine (2-3). Game time at New Balance Field is set for 1 p.m.

- The Terriers are coming off a tough 5-4 loss at Brown on Friday as the Bears erased two two-goal deficits and went on to win via shootout.
- Sophomore Lucy Johnson has scored in four of the team's five games this season and leads the team in points (13) and goals (6).
- Graduate student Maddie Hudson, who has missed three full seasons due to injury, has added seven points on three goals and an assist.
- O'Brien is coming off one of the best offensive seasons in program history, leading the 2025 Patriot League champions in points (37), goals (15) and assists (7).
- O'Brien and senior Nicole Lauro were named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team and joined senior Olivia Hammer, senior Maggie Driscoll and sophomore Molly Driscoll on the 2026 NFHCA Collegiate Watchlist.
- Senior Sophie Ortyl earned 17 starts in goal last season and tied a career high with 10 saves against Providence on Aug. 30.
- BU was selected to finish third in the Patriot League preseason poll behind American and Lafayette.
- Hudson and Maggie Driscoll are serving as co-captains for the 2026 season.
SCOUTING MAINE
- The Black Bears opened their season with two losses but have rebounded with wins in two of their past three games.
- All five of Maine's games this season have been shutouts.Â
- The Black Bears dropped a 5-0 contest at Boston College on Friday after wins against Stonehill and Davidson last weekend.
- Senior Saylor Kuefler leads the team in points (4) and goals (2) and was joined by classmate Eloise Penty and sophomore Nicole Kowalewski on the America East Preseason All-Conference Team.
- Kuefler (6g, 10a) and Penty (8g, 6a) tied for the team lead in points last year with 22 each.
- Freshman goalkeeper Annabel Halkes has played in all five games, making four starts, and has a .778 save percentage and a 2.12 goals-against average.
- The Black Bears were picked fourth in the Ivy League preseason poll.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU is 32-11Â all-time against the Black Bears.
- Maine earned a 5-0 win last season in Orono to snap the Terriers' three-game win streak in the series.
- Seven of the previous nine meetings have been decided by a single goal.
