Enos' Goal Gives Women's Soccer Win Over Hofstra
September 22, 2000 | Women's Soccer
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2000) -- Senior forward Deidre Enos scored an unassisted goal 5:01 into the second half and junior goalkeeper Danielle Demers had a five-save shutout as the Terrier women's soccer team defeated host Hofstra 1-0 on Friday afternoon (September 22nd).
It marked the America East opener for the Terriers who are now 3-4-0 overall.
Enos, who scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season and 37th goal of her collegiate career, set up the goal when she stole a Hofstra clearing attempt outside the penalty area. She dribbled through three Hofstra defenders before placing a shot into the lower right corner of the goal.
Hofstra had its best chance to tie the score late in the game when sophomore midfielder Kathleen Mikowski sent a strong header in off a corner kick, but saw it sail just wide of the near post.
With the win, Demers improved her season record to 2-2-0 as she posted her second shutout of the year. Earlier, she was credited with the 1-0 win over Quinnipiac.
The Terriers, who were picked to finish second in America East in the pre-season poll of the coaches, will be going after their second conference win on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Drexel.
