Terrier Softball Signs Alley, McDonald To Letters Of Intent
December 4, 2001 | Softball
BOSTON - The Boston University softball program has signed Liz Alley, a first baseman from Aurora, CO, and Erin McDonald, a pitcher/utility player from Macon, IL, to National Letters of Intent for the 2003 season, head softball coach Amy Hayes announced today.
Alley played first base for Eaglecrest High School, where she was a First Team All-Centennial League selection for each of her four years. She was also a two-time member of the All-City Team. She garnered an All-State honorable mention after her senior season.
Alley set school records for field percentage in a season at 1.000 percent, and put outs in a career, with 627. She was a member of the USSSA World Champions in 2000, and her team finished 17th in the ASA Gold Nationals this year.
Coach Hayes on Alley: "Liz will have an immediate impact on our program. At 6-foot-1, she will be an intimidating and extremely talented first baseman. A natural lefty with a big swing, Liz will add power to our lineup. She was a highly recruited young woman for several reasons - both athletically and academically. We are very fortunate to have signed a mature and talented student-athlete like Liz Alley."
McDonald is an All-County, All-Conference, and All-State pitcher at Mt. Zion High School in Mt. Zion, IL. She was the Macon County Player of the Year in 2001 and was her team's Most Valuable Player. She is currently in her senior season at Mt. Zion.
In her junior year, McDonald set the Mt. Zion season records for strikeouts in a season (211), wins (20), and earned run average (0.38). She has a career ERA of 0.39 with 23 shutouts. On the offensive end, she batted .431 last year.
Coach Hayes on McDonald: "Erin is one of those kinds that got overlooked by many schools. I really feel that she has the talent to become a great player for Boston University. She's a strong athlete who will mature over the next two years to where she will be an everyday player. Her versatility as a complete Utility/Pitcher will give us a lot of options on the field."
Alley chose B. U. over Iowa State, Syracuse, Samford, and New Mexico. McDonald chose B. U. over Army, Butler, and Indiana State.
