BOSTON – Senior pitcher Robyn King (Ashby, Mass / North Middlesex) earned her second consecutive America East softball Pitcher of the Week honor for the week ending April 15. In three conference starts, King went the distance three times and didn’t give up a run, while hurling a no-hitter against Vermont.
King pitched seven shutout innings in a 5-0 win over Delaware on April 9. She gave up six hits and three walks, while striking out 10 Blue Hen batters.
King faced Vermont twice in a weekend series against the Catamounts at the B. U. Softball Field. In the first game on April 13 the right-hander pitched her second career no-hitter. She walked three batters and had 10 strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
The next day, King took a no-hitter into the final inning, only to lose her no-hit bid with two outs on a single by Vermont’s Amanda Surgen. King gave up one walk and one hit, while striking out 11 batters.
For the week Kings numbers look like this: 21 innings pitched, seven hits, seven walks, 31 strikeouts. She has collected double-digit strikeouts in five of her last seven appearances, and hasn’t given up a run in her last five appearances.
King also earned pitcher of the week accolades last week, after going 2-0 and striking out 16 batters in 8.2 innings pitched as the Terriers swept Delaware in a four-game series.
