May 16, 2001 | Softball
Boston - Sophomore shortstop Kristin Knesek and senior catcher Leslie Linnemeyer were named to the 2001 America East All-Championship softball team for their performances in the America East softball championship at Delaware Field in Newark, Del.
Knesek went two-for-three in the Terriers' 2-0 loss to Towson in game one of the championship, and followed that with a one-for-two game, including a double and a walk, in B. U.'s 1-0 loss to Drexel in an elimination round game.
Linnemeyer, a 2001 All-America East first-team selection at catcher, was one-for-two against Towson, and one-for-three with a double in the Drexel game. Anchoring the Terriers behind the plate, Linnemeyer did not commit an error in 13 chances. She also contributed a sacrifice hit in the Towson game.
The All-Championship honor was the first for either player. Linnemeyer's all-conference first-team selection comes on the heels of her second-team honor following her junior season.
The Terriers finished the 2001 campaign with a 34-17 overall record. Their 21-5 conference mark was the team's best league finish ever. Included in the Terriers 34 wins was a team-record 18-game winning streak.
