BOSTON - Two Boston University softball players were recognized for their ability off the playing field, as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association named sophomore catcher Christy King (Albuquerque, N. M.) and senior second baseman Kristin Knesek (Humble, Texas) NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes.
Receiving an academic award is not foreign territory for Knesek, who has been named to the America East Academic Honor Roll in each of her three academic years at B. U. She has earned Dean's List recognition in each of her six semesters at B. U. In addition, she received the NFCA Scholar Athlete Award in each of her four years at Humble High School.
King was named to the America East Academic Honor Roll as a freshman last year. In high school, she was the recipient of the Alumni Association Award for Academic and Athletic Excellence, and was cum laude as a junior and senior while at Albuquerque Academy.
Last season, six Terriers earned a spot on the league's Academic Honor Roll. In addition to King and Knesek, Bridgid Dunlap, Tiffany Finateri, Andrea Harner, and DeKenya Williams were also were named.
Last season, the Terriers (28-23) won their second straight America East regular season championship and fifth conference title, and made their third trip to the NCAA Tournament.
