GAME 1 - Boston University 4, Vermont 0
The Terriers scored four runs in the first three innings and rode out the game on the arm of sophomore pitcher Julie Henneke (Odessa, Fla.). She tossed a complete game three-hitter and struck out 10 batters, while yielding just two walks.
Sophomore shortstop Jamie Haas (Houston, Texas) led off the game with a triple, and later scored on a fielder's choice and Vermont error to make the score 1-0.
The Terriers added another run in the second frame, as Haas drew an errant throw on a steal attempt that allowed senior second baseman Kristin Knesek (Humble, Texas) to score from third base to give B. U. a 2-0 advantage.
In the third, Henneke and sophomore designated player DeKenya Williams (San Diego, Calif.) had RBI hits to push the Terrier lead to 4-0. Henneke (7-5) cruised the rest of the way, striking out eight Catamount batters in the final four innings. Overall, she had 10 strikeouts and only two walks.
Henneke and Pauley each went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Terriers. UVM's Angie Totaro (4-8) registered seven strikeouts, but picked up the loss on the mound for Vermont.
GAME 2 - Boston University 9, Vermont 0
In game two, B. U. held a 1-0 lead through three innings, but broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning. Sophomore first baseman Jenni Shields (Simi Valley, Calif.) started the rally, reaching base on a Vermont error. With the bases loaded, freshman third baseman Josey Mendez’s (Miami, Fla.) base hit drove in two runs. Two batters later, Haas drove in two more runs to give the Terriers a 5-0 lead.
B. U. added three more runs in the sixth, thanks to a two-run single by freshman pitcher Erin McDonald (Macon, Ill.) and a Vermont error that scored freshman pinch runner Tara Hodge (Los Gatos, Calif.) to close out the game.
Haas finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Mendez plated two runs, batted 2-for-3 and registered two RBI. McDonald (6-6) earned the shutout win, her sixth win in a row, scattering four hits and striking out five batters.
The two teams close out the four-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader that begins at 12:00pm.
