BOSTON - Boston University softball sophomores Julie Henneke (Odessa, Fla.) and Jamie Haas (Houston, Texas) were both named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Northeast Region Team on May 14. Henneke earned First Team honors as a utility player, while Haas was a Second Team selection at shortstop.
In their freshman seasons last year, both players earned NFCA All-Northeast Region Second Team honors.
Henneke was also named to the America East All-Conference First Team and was selected as the conference's Most Outstanding Player in the Terriers' run to their second straight America East championship. She also earned New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association (NEISCA) First Team All-Star accolades as a utility player.
Offensively, Henneke led the Terriers in batting (.324), RBI (27), slugging percentage (.449), and total bases (79). Her .373 on-base percentage was third-best on the team, and she was tied for first in doubles (10). She was the Terriers' go-to pitcher this season, posting a 14-7 record and a 1.42 earned run average, the third-lowest ERA in America East. She had 152 strikeouts on the season, compared to just 53 walks.
Haas was selected as America East's Player of the Year for the second time in her two seasons at B. U., on the way earning America East All-Conference First Team and All-Championship Team honors. She was a NEISCA honorable mention selection at shortstop as well. Haas led the Terriers in a number of categories. She set a B. U. record with a team-leading 188 at bats, and led the team in runs (30), hits (60), walks (22), and on-base percentage (.399). She also had a team-record 24 stolen bases.
The duo led the Terriers (33-23) to their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance this season. The team won its third straight America East regular-season title along with its back-to-back conference tournament championships.
