BOSTON - Junior shortstop Jamie Haas (Houston, Texas) earned her third straight America East Softball First Team All-Conference honor at the league's softball championship banquet on Wednesday, May 12. A pair of Terriers, sophomore first baseman Liz Alley (Aurora, Colo.) and freshman pitcher/outfielder Brittany Detwiler (Souderton, Pa.) earned Second Team accolades. Freeman and Detwiler earned additional honors by being named to the All-Rookie Team.
B.U. (23-30, 11-7) earned the No. 3 seed in this week's America East Softball Championship, held at the University of Maine's Kessock Field in Orono. The Terriers will take on No. 2 Stony Brook University on Thursday, May 13 at noon. The winner moves on to play the winner of the game between No. 1 University at Albany and No. 4 Maine. The loser plays the loser of the Albany-Maine game.
The Championship is a four-team, double-elimination format. The championship game will be held on Saturday, May 15 at Kessock Field between the two surviving teams.
Haas was selected as America East's Player of the Year after her freshman and sophomore seasons in 2002 and 2003, but was edged by Albany pitcher Andrea Lindgren for the award this season. It is the second First-Team honor for Williams, who was named to the team as a designated player last year. It is the first post-season award for Alley, Freeman, and Detwiler.
Once again, Haas led the Terriers in nearly all of the major offensive categories. She paced the Terriers in batting (.345), hits (57), runs (29), and steals (15). Williams had her most consistent year at B.U., finishing second on the team in batting (.297) and slugging (.453). She belted a career-high four homers and tied her career high with 16 RBI.

Alley's power-hitting potential came to fruition in her sophomore season. Her 12 home runs set a B.U. single-season record for homers. She is currently tied with Cathleen Crowley '94 with 15 career home runs. Alley led the Terriers in homers, RBI (35), and slugging (.548) - all totals that place her among America East leaders.
Detwiler improved in the circle as the season progressed. In her last six starts, all against conference foes, the freshman averaged 5.0 strikeouts per game. Offensively, she batted .304 with a .393 slugging percentage.
