B.U. (23-31) now plays an elimination game against the University at Albany - a 1-0 loser to the University of Maine - on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
The Terriers jumped out quickly in the top of the first, as senior center fielder Abbey Pauley (Spring, Texas) led off with an infield hit, then junior shortstop Jamie Haas (Houston, Texas) reached on an error. B.U. took a 1-0 lead after a sacrifice fly by junior left fielder DeKenya Williams (San Diego, Calif.).

The Stony Brook (30-31) offensive got on track in the third inning. Jane Stein stroked an RBI double that scored a pair to tie the score at 2-2. A Hayley Durham sacrifice foul out scored Stein to give the Seawolves a lead they would not surrender.
Stony Brook maintained its one-run lead into the sixth, when B.U. freshman pitcher Brittany Detwiler (Souderton, Pa.) struck out the first two Seawolves' batters. Detwiler then allowed a walk, and three straight hits as SB scored another three runs to take a commanding 6-2 lead.
Detwiler (5-12) went the distance, allowing four earned runs on nine hits in her first career tournament action. She struck out five and walked three. Stony Brook's Angela Andrews (20-18) allowed two runs (both unearned) one five hits while striking out three and walking two.
