Cook, Terrier Women's Soccer Recognized For Quick Start
September 7, 2004 | Women's Soccer
BOSTON, MA-Terrier junior Meghann Cook has been named the America East Women's Soccer Player of the Week, while the Terriers are ranked 22nd in the nation in this week's NSCAA/adidas national ranking.
Off to their best start since 1996 with a 3-0-0 record, this marks the first time the Terriers have ever been ranked nationally, although, in previous years, they have been listed as "others receiving votes." While they are not ranked nationally in the Soccer Buzz poll, the Terriers do remain second in the Northeast Region this week behind the University of Connecticut.
Cook (Melrose, MA) was recognized by America East as its first player of the week this season for her two goals and two assists through the team's first three games. After being held scoreless in the Terriers' season-opening 1-0 win over BC, she came back to score a goal and add an assist in the Terriers' 2-1 win over UMass. Her goal vs. the Minutewomen proved to be the game-winner. Then, in the 3-2 win over George Mason, she had a goal and assisted on Melissa Shulman's (Huntington, NY) game-winner.
Together, the M Squad of Meghann and Melissa, have picked up this year where they left off last year. Through three games, Cook and Shulman have scored four of the team's six goals as each has two. Cook leads the team in both assists (2) and points (6).
In the early stages of the season, Cook has already moved up the Terriers' all-time goal- and point-scoring lists. Her two goals give her 12 for her career, which ranks 10th on the all-time list, while her point total is now 34, which places her 12th. Shulman remains sixth in goals (19) and 7th in points (45). And, both are just juniors.
