BOSTON - Seniors Lauren Basham and Christina Reuter will represent the Boston University women's soccer team in the 2007 New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Bowl on Sunday, Dec. 2, hosted by Bryant College in Smithfield, R.I.
NEWISA, which was formed by coaches in the 1970s, has held the annual event to honor the players who for four years have helped contribute to their respective programs and the growth of soccer in New England. The selection process is done over a three-week period of nominations and voting by coaches throughout New England at each division. The game will consist of two teams featuring a combination of Division I, II and III players.
Reuter was named the 2007 America East Goalkeeper of the Year, in addition to being a first-team honoree following a standout season. In net, she has amassed five shutouts, a 0.66 GAA and an .885 save percentage. She flourished in the conference season with a stingy 0.25 GAA and a .951 save percentage, good for second in the league in both categories. She is currently fifth among the nation's goalkeepers in save percentage and is 25th in GAA.
Basham has been a consistent and dangerous threat on the offensive front all season long. The Lake Oswego, Ore., native patrolled the outside flanks in 20-of-21 games, missing just one contest to injury. She tallied two crucial assists in the postseason, as she had a hand in the game-winning goal against Binghamton in the America East semifinals and on the Terriers' first goal in the championship game versus New Hampshire.
