COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Boston University softball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Missouri on Friday evening in Columbia, Mo. The Tigers scored a run in the first inning and two in the second to earn the victory. Freshman pitcher Kelley Engman threw a complete game and struck out two batters, while allowing two earned runs. BU falls to 1-5 overall, while Missouri, who was receiving votes in the most recent USA Softball poll, improves to 12-6.
Junior Shayne Lotito had a big first inning with a single and a stolen base; however, back-to-back strikeouts ended a promising first frame. Missouri struck in the bottom of the first when Rhea Taylor stole second and third and scored on a sacrifice hit.
The Tigers rounded out the scoring with a two-run second inning. An error on a double brought home Kathryn Poet and Michaele Vock to increase Missouri's lead to three runs.
For the final four innings, Engman allowed just two hits and no runs; however, BU was not able to mount a comeback. Junior Brooke Hudson and sophomore Rachel Moeller both singled, but Missouri pitcher Stacey Delaney was able to record the crucial outs and pick up the win.
