Game One | Game Two
STONY BROOK, N.Y. -
The Boston University softball team (18-11, 5-0 AE) took two from Stony Brook (14-14-1, 1-4 AE) on Saturday, as sophomore pitchers Cassidi Hardy and Megan Currier allowed no runs and just four hits the entire afternoon, while both hurlers went the distance in their respective games. The Terriers extended their winning streak to 10 games with the 1-0 and 2-0 victories.
Freshman April Setterlund drove in a pair of runs on Saturday, including a leadoff homer in game two, which proved to be the game-winner. In the first contest, she drew a walk in a bases-loaded situation to bring home sophomore Rachel Hebert for the winning run.
Hardy and the defense continued their dominance following Hebert's run in the first game, allowing just two base runners and one hit in the final three frames. In seven innings of work, Hardy struck out six batters and allowed just one hit and four walks in her ninth complete game.
In the second contest, BU got on the board early with a run in the first before tacking on one more in the fourth. Setterlund smacked one over the fence in the first at-bat to put the Terriers ahead for good. The bats went quiet until the fourth when Hebert led off with a single to left field and scored three plays later when sophomore Rachel Moeller's single to shortstop allowed Hebert to cross home plate.
Currier did not allow a runner past second base all game and retired the batters in order in four of the seven innings, forcing seven ground outs to go along with two strikeouts. She gave up just three hits and went to the distance for the fourth time this season.
The Terriers' pitching staff has now kept opponents scoreless through 23 straight innings, dating back their win over Providence on April 2. Hardy has pitched back-to-back shutouts.
BU and Stony Brook will complete the season series on Sunday at noon.
