BOSTON - The Boston University softball team (6-4) defeated CCSU, 2-1, and Robert Morris, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at the USF Under Armour Showcase. Red-shirt freshman Jayme Mask batted .500 on the day, while freshman Holli Floetker and sophomore Whitney Tuthill picked up the wins in the circle.
After five scoreless innings, the Blue Devils broke the scoreless deadlock with on a sacrifice hit, however, the Terriers came back to score two unanswered runs and pick up the win. In the bottom half of the frame, Mask scored on a single by junior Erica Casacci after reaching base on a single of her own.
In the bottom of the seventh freshman Megan Volpano ripped the game-winning RBI double to right center field that plated classmate Amy Ekart. Tuthill pitched in the complete-game effort, striking out two batters.
In game two, Mask connected on two more hits, while senior April Setterlund, Volpano, and red-shirt freshman Chelsea Kehr also had one. BU scored all the runs it would been in the second as Kehr recorded an RBI single, and then took advantage of a fielding error to cross home plate.
Floetker earned the complete-game win with eight strikeouts, while surrendering just one hit.
BU will take on Central Michigan on Sunday (March 13) at 12 p.m.
