LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Four members of the 2013 Boston University softball team have earned All-America Scholar-Athlete accolades, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Monday afternoon.
Seniors Brittany Clendenny, Chelsea Kehr and Jayme Mask along with graduate Emily Roesch all achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2012-13 academic year. Both Mask and Roesch earned the honor for the second consecutive year.
A 2013 America East All-Conference First Team honoree, Clendenny was first on the team with nine doubles in 48 starts at short stop. Besides finishing second with 20 RBIs, she batted .260 overall and .302 with runners in scoring position
Named to the NFCA All-Northeast Region First Team as a freshman, Kehr missed the first half of the season due to injury but came back in the second to have a productive year. She finished second on the team with a .344 batting average, going 17-of-40 (.425) in the last 13 games.
Mask had a year to remember, becoming BU's 10th America East Player of the Year. She led the league in hitting at .399, seventh highest mark in program history, and tallied 37 stolen bases, tied for most ever at BU. She was named an ECAC All-Star and placed on the NFCA Northeast All-Region First Team.
Hampered by injuries throughout her career at BU, Roesch still started at 48 games at second base and helped BU record 108 putouts. Identical to Clendenny, she finished with nine doubles and 20 RBIs. She was previously named 2012 America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year and departed BU ranked second all-time with 39 doubles.
All four Terriers along with six other teammates were placed on the America East Academic Honor Roll this past summer for recording a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
