KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Associate head coach Casey Brown was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Mid-Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year, the organization announced on Thursday.
Regional assistant coaches of the year are automatically put on the ballot for consideration for the National Coach of the Year, which will be announced during the 2015 NSCAA Coach of the Year show on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
Brown just completed her third year as an assistant to her former head coach, Nancy Feldman. Prior to the start of this season, Feldman announced Brown’s promotion to associate head coach and her importance to the program was not overlooked by her peers as she garnered the first-ever NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year award for Boston University.
The first player in America East history to earn three-straight Defender of the Year awards, Brown has instilled her defensive prowess on the current Terriers including reigning Patriot League Defender of the Year, McKenzie Hollenbaugh, who’s skill at centerback led BU to its fifth-ever NCAA victory this season, defeating St. John’s and the best offensive player in the country to move on to the second round.
Brown has been on the BU staff since the Terriers made the jump to the Patriot League and has guided them to three-straight conference championships, the first team to accomplish the feat since 1999 when Colgate won its sixth-straight title. The former Terrier is no stranger to success, however, as she also led her team to three America East Championships and four NCAA Tournament appearances during her time in the Scarlet and White.
A native of nearby Natick, Mass., Brown holds a NSCAA National Diploma and a Massachusetts Youth Soccer E License. In August, 2013, she was selected to the NSCAA’s 30 under 30 program, a year-long education and mentorship opportunity which includes 15 male and 15 female coaches and is dedicated to fostering their growth at a crucial point in their vocation.
