BOSTON - Senior Hester van der Laan's goal with 36 seconds remaining in regulation broke a 1-1 tie and sent the top-seeded Boston University field hockey team to the Patriot League title game with a 2-1 victory over Bucknell on Friday afternoon at New Balance Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

With the game tied, 1-1, the Terriers earned a late penalty corner. Junior Kali Shumock inserted and found van der Laan, who gathered the pass and fired a shot into the cage for her seventh goal of the season.
The Terriers took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute when van der Laan assisted on sophomore Allie Doggett's third goal of the season. Doggett got the ball on the right side of the circle and fired a low shot into the left corner of the cage.
Bucknell equalized in the 60th minute on the strength of an Allie Christopher marker.
Following van der Laan's winner, Estelle Palandjian got one final shot on target for Bucknell, but senior Cammy Jensen made her fifth and final save of the game to preserve the victory.

GAME NOTES

With the win, the defending Patriot League champion Terriers will play in the conference title game for the fourth straight year.
This was van der Laan's second three-point game of the season. She also recorded a goal and an assist in a 3-1 victory over Holy Cross.
BU attempted 24 shots to just eight for Bucknell. Ten of the Terriers' shots were on goal, with Jensen stopping five of the Bison's six shots on target.
The Terriers also earned 15 corners while limiting Bucknell to just three of its own.

NEXT UP

BU will host No. 2 seed American in the Patriot League title game on Sunday at noon. The Eagles defeated Holy Cross, 1-0, in the second semifinal.
The Terriers bested American, 2-1, on Oct. 29 in Washington, D.C.
