Softball Tops Brown, 7-3

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Featuring five Terriers with two hits apiece, the Boston University softball team posted a 7-3 win at Brown on Wednesday afternoon.
Never trailing in the game, the Terriers (12-18) snap a six-game losing streak, as the Bears fall to 16-12. Senior Melanie Russell (2-6) pitched her fourth complete game of the season and tallied two strikeouts against one while while scattering five hits.
Junior Moriah Connolly led BU with two hits, including an RBI single, and reached home plate two times. Classmate Gabi Martinez went 2-of-3 with an RBI single and RBI walk, while sophomore Jilee Schanda, sophomore Emma Wong and freshman Emily Morrow also tallied two hits apiece.
Martinez and Schanda both contributed an RBI single in the third to give the Terriers the lead for good. BU blew the game open in the fourth by loading the bases with one out. Connolly and Martinez both plated a run, and the Bears misplayed a grounder from freshman Alex Heinen to allow two more runs to score.
After being held scoreless through five innings, the Bears' bats came alive in the sixth with four hits, including a doubel and triple, to cut the deficit in half (6-3). However, sophomore Kaitlin Sahlinger led off in the seventh with her first-career homer to help kill the rally.
Before resuming conference play at home this weekend, BU will next visit Boston College on Thursday at 4 p.m.
