BOSTON – Despite holding a 10-3 advantage in corners, the No. 9 Boston University field hockey team dropped a 5-1 contest to No. 3 Connecticut on Sunday afternoon at New Balance Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Connecticut scored on its first three shots and held off the Terriers, who earned 10 corners on the day while only allowing three.
- Junior Allie Renzi scored BU's lone goal with exactly 19 minutes left in regulation, knocking the ball in at the left post following a pass across the goalmouth by senior Taylor Blood to make it a 4-1 contest.
- Casey Umstead scored two goals for the Huskies, following up her own rebound off a corner in the 38th minute before converting a penalty stroke in the closing moments of the contest.
- Charlotte Veitner opened the scoring on a reverse-stick drive from the left side at 8:37 before setting up Amanda Collins for a goal less than five minutes later.
- UConn took a 3-0 lead when Darby Smith, from the top right of the circle, tucked a reverse-stick shot inside the near post at 23:50.
- Nina Klein made four saves – all in the first half – for UConn while senior Cammy Jensen recorded a pair of stops for the Terriers.
GAME NOTES
- BU held a 7-6 advantage in shots at halftime but the Huskies finished with a slim 11-10 edge for the game.
- The loss snapped BU's nine-game home winning streak.
- Renzi's goal was her fourth of the season.
- This was the first-time two top-10 teams faced off at New Balance Field.
NEXT UP
- BU returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 29) when it hosts Harvard at 6 p.m.
