BOSTON – Despite holding a 10-3 advantage in corners, the No. 9 Boston University field hockey team dropped a 5-1 contest to No. 3 Connecticut on Sunday afternoon at New Balance Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Connecticut scored on its first three shots and held off the Terriers, who earned 10 corners on the day while only allowing three.
Junior Allie Renzi scored BU's lone goal with exactly 19 minutes left in regulation, knocking the ball in at the left post following a pass across the goalmouth by senior Taylor Blood to make it a 4-1 contest.
Casey Umstead scored two goals for the Huskies, following up her own rebound off a corner in the 38th minute before converting a penalty stroke in the closing moments of the contest.
Charlotte Veitner opened the scoring on a reverse-stick drive from the left side at 8:37 before setting up Amanda Collins for a goal less than five minutes later.
UConn took a 3-0 lead when Darby Smith, from the top right of the circle, tucked a reverse-stick shot inside the near post at 23:50.
Nina Klein made four saves – all in the first half – for UConn while senior Cammy Jensen recorded a pair of stops for the Terriers.

GAME NOTES

BU held a 7-6 advantage in shots at halftime but the Huskies finished with a slim 11-10 edge for the game.
The loss snapped BU's nine-game home winning streak.
Renzi's goal was her fourth of the season.
This was the first-time two top-10 teams faced off at New Balance Field.
