LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Highlighted by eight Terriers earning individual NFCA/Easton Scholar-Athlete honors, the Boston University softball squad was named a 2016-17 NFCA/Easton Division I All-Academic Team, as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
While on the journey to their third Patriot League championship round appearance in four years, the Terriers were also excelling in the classroom with a program-record 14 members being placed on the conference's academic honor roll for owning a GPA of 3.20 or greater.
Recent grad Gabi Martinez, senior Kaitlin Sahlinger, junior Alexa Ponce, sophomore Kali Magane and sophomore Lizzie Annerino went an extra level and boasted GPAs above 3.50 to claim their first-ever Scholar-Athlete awards. Seniors Jilee Schanda, Emma Wong and Sydni Overly also hit the mark to claim their second NFCA nod.
Led by head coach Ashley Waters, BU was one of 143 NCAA Division I programs to post a team GPA above 3.00 and finished with the 42nd highest GPA at 3.440.
