No. 20 BU Defeats Holy Cross, 4-0, to Advance to PL Championship

BOSTON - Four first-half goals helped propel the No. 20 Boston University field hockey team to a 4-0 win over Holy Cross in a Patriot League semifinal contest on Friday afternoon at New Balance Field.
With the win, the Terriers advance to Sunday's championship contest and will face either second-seeded American or third-seeded Bucknell at 12 p.m. This is the fifth straight year that BU has qualified for the Patriot League title game.

How It Happened
- The teams battled to an even opening 15 minutes of the contest before the Terriers ripped off three goals in just over five minutes to take command of the contest.
- Kiley Gallagher opened the scoring in the 15th minute off a penalty corner. She collected the insert from Kali Shumock and uncorked a bouncing shot past Marcia LaPlante.
- Grace Boston quickly made it 2-0 in the 17th minute when she redirected a Kara Enoch shot into the back of the cage.
- Maika Akroyd added a goal with just over 10 minutes to play in the first half. She took a pass from Petra Hall, dashed into the circle and fired the ball inside the left post for her fourth goal of the season.
- Boston secured her second goal of the game and ninth of the season in the 28th minute. The Terriers first look during a penalty corner went wide, but Boston intercepted a Crusader clearing attempt and lifted a shot into the top left corner.
Game Notes
- The Terriers outshot the Crusaders, 10-1, and had 26 shot attempts to just two for Holy Cross.,
- BU also held an 8-0 edge in corners.
- Freshman Millie Baker played the first half to earn the win and improve to 7-3 on the year.
- Junior Kathleen Keegan came in at halftime and made one save to preserve the Terriers' fourth shutout of the season.
- This was Boston's second multi-goal game of the season. She also scored twice against Lehigh on Oct. 21.

- BU awaits the winner of Friday's second semifinal between second-seeded American and third-seeded Bucknell.
- The Terriers defeated both teams at home this year. They topped American, 2-1, on Oct. 7 and bested the Bison, 1-0, on Oct. 28.
