MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – Sophomore Alexa Ponce and junior Kaitlin Sahlinger recorded two RBIs apiece to help the Boston University softball team end the Madeira Beach Invitational with a 5-4 win over Southern Illinois on Sunday afternoon.

TURNING POINT

Facing a 4-3 deficit in the top of the fifth, the Terriers scored two runs despite only having one hit in the top of the fifth.
Sophomore Alexa Ponce took advantage of SIU's two errors with a one-out RBI single, and junior Kaitlin Sahlinger was hit by a pitch to plate what proved to be the game-winning run.
Freshman Kali Magane limited the Salukis to just two hits and a walk over the final three innings to seal the victory.

THE SETUP

The Terriers jumped out of the gate with two runs in the first off senior Gabi Martinez's two-out RBI double and Ponce's RBI single.
SIU though quickly tied the game against freshman Lizzie Annerino with a walk, RBI triple and RBI single.
After Magane pitched a scoreless second and third in relief, BU briefly retook the lead in the fourth on back-to-back doubles from junior Jilee Schanda and Sahlinger.
The Salukis grabbed their lone lead in the bottom half with a one-out, two-RBI single.

NEXT UP

BU will take the following week off and then travel west for an extended stay in California.
The Terriers will compete at both the San Diego Classic (March 3-5) and the Louisville Slugger Invitational co-hosted by Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton (March 9-11) ... They will also visit Loyola Marymount for a doubleheader on March 7.
