TURNING POINT
- With the score 1-1 in the top of the ninth, UML's Samantha McQueen led off with a double against freshman Kali Magane and eventually scored from third by beating the throw at home on an infield grounder to sophomore Emily Morrow at second.
- Batting 3-of-5 for the day, Vanessa Cooper followed with a two-run blast toward right center against freshman Lizzie Annerino to push the lead to 4-1.
- Also collecting three hits, junior JIlee Schanda tried to mount a rally with a lead-off solo homer against UML starter Kaysee Talcik, but Lauren Ramirez retired the side to seal the win and claim her second save of the year.
- UMass Lowell quickly went 1-2-3 to start off the game against senior starter Makinna Akers but would record at least one hit in each of the remaining innings to finish with 17 total.
- The River Hawks got on the board first in the fourth by hitting a pair of one-out singles and then plopping the next hit inside the foul line in left field for a 1-0 advantage.
- Earning BU's only hit through six innings in the first, Schanda led off the seventh with an infield single before taking second on senior Gabi Martinez's sacrifice bunt and scoring on sophomore Alex Heinen's one-out deep RBI double toward right center.
- Heinen took third on the throw home but junior pinch runner Diana Parker was stranded there, as Talcik got an infield grounder and lineout to end the threat.
- UML and BU combined for five singles in the eighth, but neither team was able to get a run to send the game to the ninth.
- Schanda earned her second homer of the season and her third career after claiming one as a freshman.
- Heinen now owns a personal-best 10 doubles in one season after tallying nine her freshman year.
- The contest marked the second extra-inning game of the season for BU, who previously fell at San Diego State (11-10) back in March.
- The last three meetings at BU against UML have either been decided by one run or required extra innings.
- The Terriers will remain home and host defending MAAC champion Marist on Wednesday (April 19) in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
- The Red Foxes are making their first-ever trip to BU after winning last year's doubleheader at home, 9-3 and 5-4.
